Motus Rehab Clinic is a multidisciplinary rehab practice, located in the SOMA district of San Francisco. They offer services from Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, and Massage therapists, for everyone from professional athletes to the desk bound employees. Their unique customized set of services helps each of their patients meet their goals and recover faster from their injuries.  Patient empowerment is a key part of their process. Everyone has to be an active participant. This results in high value care and better treatment outcomes for Motus Rehab Clinic’s patients.

Motus Rehab Clinic opened in August 2016, and they now have three employees plus three practitioners operating in their business.

Motus Rehab Clinic is able to offer a wider breadth of services to their clients because they operate outside of the health insurance market.  This unique package cash-based approach means they can tailor services that provide better care and better outcomes, spending more time with their patients instead of negotiating with insurance companies.  “When the opportunity presented itself to open my own business, I jumped at the chance,” remembers Lindsay.  “I was frustrated working in the current healthcare system, and having my own business has given me more opportunity to provide better care to my patients.”

Lindsay used her loan from Main Street Launch to purchase some equipment, complete some tenant improvements to her building, and for working capital.  “Without the loan I wouldn’t have been able to start the business.  The working capital let me hire staff right away and invest in marketing and offering benefits.  Having the cash let me plan for the long-term and operate right away like my business is successful.  Having this infrastructure let me build a business that’s ready for growth,” explains Lindsay.  “At Main Street Launch, if you give the staff what they need, they’ll be able to help you.  It’s lots of paperwork and you need to be patient, but it’s worth it in the long-run.”

Lindsay encourages new entrepreneurs to take some time to self-reflect.  “While It is important to plan, work hard, and put the time in; self-reflection is equally as important in my experience and sometime more so. You need to be able to look at your personal weaknesses and be willing to confront them so they do not hold your business back from thriving.”
